BOGOTÁ, Colombia — On Thursday, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney expanded their soccer ownership ventures by joining an investment group that has acquired Colombian team La Equidad.

The duo, known for their ownership of Wrexham, now holds shares in an investment group spearheaded by Al Tylis, co-chairman of the Mexican club Necaxa, and Sam Porter, who is a board member of Necaxa.

La Equidad, established in Bogotá during the 1980s, announced that the transaction received approval from the country’s professional soccer governing body.

In addition to Reynolds and McElhenney, the investment group boasts several high-profile investors, including actress Eva Longoria, and Major League Baseball pitcher Justin Verlander alongside his actress wife, Kate Upton.

According to the club’s statement, Tylis and Porter will take charge as co-presidents of La Equidad’s board of directors.

The club expressed its positive outlook by mentioning that its new owners are dedicated to investing in essential sectors, particularly focusing on enhancing the men’s and women’s teams.

Details concerning the financial aspects of the acquisition have not been disclosed to the public.

Tylis emphasized that the group’s vision is to “reinforce every facet of the club,” committing to long-term investments while building upon the already solid groundwork.

Regarded as a relatively small team, La Equidad plays its home games at the Metropolitano Stadium, which accommodates only 10,000 fans. The team concluded the recent league season in 13th place.

This is not Reynolds and McElhenney’s first venture into soccer ownership, as they previously acquired a minority stake in Necaxa last year.
