FBI investigators revealed that Jabbar conducted online searches related to the German Christmas market car attack and New Orleans Mardi Gras celebrations in the days and hours leading up to the massacre.
Details of the German attack
“He searched for details about the vehicle used in the German attack just hours before driving a rented truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street,” authorities stated.
Jabbar’s path to radicalization
According to the FBI, Jabbar became increasingly devout in 2022 and adopted extremist beliefs by mid-2024.
Execution of the attack
On Jan. 1, Jabbar drove a truck bearing the ISIS flag into a crowd of revelers. Earlier, he had placed explosives in plastic coolers across the city, rigged with remote detonators. He was fatally shot by police before he could detonate the devices.
Investigation continues
The FBI and local authorities continue to analyze thousands of photos, videos, and other evidence to uncover Jabbar’s motivations and connections.
“The public’s cooperation has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of this horrific act,” the FBI noted.
Further updates are expected as the investigation proceeds.
