NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans completed their search for a new general manager for the third consecutive day on Sunday, conducting virtual interviews with Ian Cunningham, the assistant general manager of the Chicago Bears, and Mike Borgonzi, the assistant general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Titans are looking to fill the position left vacant by Ran Carthon, who was dismissed on Tuesday following a disappointing record of 9-25 during his two-year tenure as general manager. Chad Brinker, who serves as the team’s president of football operations, is leading the hiring process, which began on Friday. The team conducted interviews with three candidates initially, followed by another four on Saturday.
With the latest interviews, the Titans have now engaged with nine different applicants for the role.
Cunningham completed his interview on Sunday morning and was previously considered for the general manager position two years ago when the franchise chose Carthon instead. Cunningham has been with the Bears since 2022, a title created for him as he previously worked for five seasons in Philadelphia. His progression in Philadelphia began as the director of college scouting in 2017 and then elevated to assistant director of player personnel in 2019 before becoming the director of player personnel in 2021.
A former player personnel assistant for the Ravens, Cunningham started his career in 2008 and transitioned to area scout in 2013. He played a notable role in winning two Super Bowl championships, one with the Ravens during the 2012 season and another with the Eagles in 2017. Before entering coaching, he played as an offensive lineman at Virginia and was signed by Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2008.
Borgonzi, on the other hand, has made a name for himself in Kansas City, where he has been working under general manager Brett Veach since 2021. He handles the team’s college and professional scouting operations and has been instrumental in roster construction. He recently interviewed for the New York Jets’ general manager position as well.
Starting his career with the Chiefs in 2009, Borgonzi has undertaken various responsibilities; he served as the director of football operations for three years before being elevated to his current role. He previously played as a fullback in college at Brown University.
Each of these candidates brings unique experiences that the Titans will consider as they work to enhance their management structure and optimize their performance in the upcoming seasons.
