SANTA CLARA, Calif. — In a commanding performance, Carlos Stewart Jr. made a significant impact in the second half, scoring all 25 points to lead Santa Clara to a decisive 77-54 victory over San Francisco on Saturday night.
Initially struggling, Stewart failed to find the basket in the first half, going 0 for 3. However, he bounced back impressively, sinking five 3-pointers and finishing the second half with an impressive shooting display of 9 out of 10. Alongside his scoring, Stewart also contributed five rebounds and three steals, helping the Broncos improve their record to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in the West Coast Conference. Teammate Elijah Mahi also had a strong game, shooting 7 for 10 for a total of 17 points, while Christoph Tilly added another 10 points to the scoreboard.
For the Dons, Malik Thomas was the standout player, leading the team with 19 points. Carlton Linguard Jr. chipped in with nine points and recorded two blocks, while Ryan Beasley added eight points to the team’s efforts. The Dons, who now hold a 14-5 record and stand at 4-2 in conference play, faced an uphill battle, especially after going into halftime trailing 28-21.
Stewart’s extraordinary second half proved to be a game-changer, enabling Santa Clara to overcome their deficit and seal a remarkable 23-point win.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to continue their campaigns this Thursday. Santa Clara will travel to Loyola Marymount, while San Francisco will head to Pepperdine in search of redemption.
