Sheffield, England — Caroline Dubois successfully defended her WBC lightweight title on Saturday night against Jessica Camara, although the fight concluded in a technical draw due to an unintentional clash of heads. Dubois, who had previously knocked down her opponent in the first round, showcased her dominance throughout the match, which was halted shortly after the third round began.
During the bout, Camara was visibly affected; her right eye was swollen from Dubois’s punches, and there was a cut above her left eye, which was caused by the accidental collision of heads in the second round. After the fight, Dubois voiced her opinion on her opponent’s resolve, stating, “I don’t think she wanted it. The blood wasn’t coming in her face; it was coming around the side of her face — she didn’t want it, man.”
Referee intervention was necessary when he called a timeout after observing Camara’s injuries. Following an examination by the ringside doctor, it was determined that the 36-year-old Camara, holding a record of 14 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, could not proceed with the fight. Given that the match went less than four rounds, the outcome was officially recorded as a technical draw.
Following the fight, Dubois expressed her desire to face WBO champion Terri Harper, stating, “Terri Harper, that’s who I want.” She indicated her ambition to unify all titles in the lightweight division by the end of 2025, especially with the IBF belt held by Beatriz Ferreira from Brazil and the WBA belt currently vacant.
Shane McGuigan, Dubois’ trainer, praised her abilities, asserting that she has the potential to capture titles across different weight classes. He confidently remarked, “She’s the best female fighter on the planet, by a mile.” The bout reaffirmed Dubois’s status as a leading contender in women’s boxing as she aims for further accolades in her career.
