ALTENBERG, Germany — In an impressive display of skill, the Austrian duo of Selina Egle and Lara Kipp clinched their fourth straight victory in the World Cup women’s doubles luge event on Saturday. Meanwhile, the American pair of Chevonne Forgan and Sophie Kirkby secured a commendable medal finish, marking their fourth podium appearance this season out of five races.

Egle and Kipp demonstrated remarkable speed, leading in both runs and comfortably outpacing the German team of Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal, who finished in the second position. Forgan and Kirkby rounded out the top three, showcasing their growing prowess in the competitive field.

In men’s doubles, Latvia’s Martins Bots and Roberts Plume celebrated their second victory of the season, while the host nation’s Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt finished as runners-up. The Austrian duo of Yannick Mueller and Armin Frauscher secured the third spot. The top American team, comprised of Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa, finished in sixth place.

The men’s singles luge event saw Germany dominate, taking home both gold and silver medals, with Max Langenhan emerging victorious and Felix Loch trailing in second place. Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller claimed the bronze medal, and Jonny Gustafson from the United States was the highest-placed American, finishing in 13th.

In bobsled news from St. Moritz, Switzerland, Germany achieved a remarkable podium sweep in the men’s two-man World Cup race on Saturday. The teams of Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schuller, along with Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer, both clocked in identical winning times, while Adam Ammour and Benedikt Hertel closely followed in third, just 0.07 seconds behind the leaders. None of the other competitors were able to finish within a second of the winners. The U.S. team, featuring Frank del Duca and Carsten Vissering, secured an eighth-place finish.

Looking ahead, the bobsled competition will continue on Sunday with the two-woman and four-man World Cup events in St. Moritz. Meanwhile, Altenberg will host the women’s singles and the team relay World Cup on Sunday. Additionally, skeleton enthusiasts can look forward to the season finale, featuring men’s, women’s, and mixed team events scheduled for February 7 at Lillehammer, Norway.
