Former Scotland captain Stuart Hogg ordered to pay back funds for domestic abuse over one-year period.

Former Scottish rugby player Stuart Hogg has received a community payback order after confessing to a sustained period of domestic abuse against his estranged wife.
Hogg appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on November 4, where he pleaded guilty to one charge related to his ex-partner, Gillian Hogg.
His behavior included shouting, swearing, tracking her whereabouts, and sending distressing messages over a period of five years.

During the sentencing on Thursday, Sheriff Peter Paterson decided on a community order that includes one year of supervision, indicating that this is an option meant to avoid prison time.
Alongside the community order, Hogg has also been subjected to a non-harassment order that prohibits him from contacting or approaching Gillian Hogg for five years, which mirrors a similar order that had been established the previous month.

As Hogg exited the courtroom, he chose not to make any comments, dressed in a dark suit with a tie.
Earlier, he had already been prohibited from contacting Gillian Hogg after breaching his bail conditions in December, during which he sent her an overwhelming number of 28 text messages in a single evening.

Having retired from professional rugby in 2023, Hogg signed with French club Montpellier shortly thereafter and currently resides abroad while undergoing divorce proceedings with his wife.

Stuart Hogg progressed through Scotland’s youth teams and made his debut in the senior squad during the 2012 Six Nations Championship.
He was recognized as the player of the tournament in both 2016 and 2017 and took on the captaincy role in 2020.
In recognition of his contributions to rugby, he was awarded an MBE in the most recent British New Year’s honors list.
