SAN FRANCISCO — The devastating wildfire in the Los Angeles suburbs has led to the evacuation of thousands, including Ann Kerr, the 90-year-old mother of Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. He shared this news on Tuesday night following the Warriors’ defeat to Miami with a score of 114-98.

“Due to evacuation orders affecting tens of thousands, my mom left her home in Pacific Palisades,” Kerr expressed, extending his thoughts and sympathies to all those grappling with the impacts of the fire in Los Angeles. He emphasized the severity of the situation when he noted that Everett Dayton, a member of the Warriors’ player development team, had also been affected, having lost his family home in the same picturesque region of Southern California, where fierce winds exacerbated the wildfire’s advance.

Pacific Palisades is located about 20 miles west of downtown Los Angeles and is adjacent to Malibu. This area is characterized by winding roads flanked by densely packed homes, all set against the backdrop of the Santa Monica Mountains, with its lower reaches reaching the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Kerr expressed deep concern for the community, stating, “Everything I’m seeing and reading is just terrifying what’s happening down there.” He reiterated the need to prioritize empathy and understanding, remarking that the game pales in comparison to the devastation many are currently facing. “Obviously, the game is secondary to that and to many things in life. Perspective is important.”
