LOS ANGELES — In an impressive display, Vladislav Goldin led the No. 24 Michigan Wolverines to a 94-75 victory over the 22nd-ranked UCLA Bruins on Tuesday night, marking their fourth consecutive win. Goldin tallied a career-high 36 points, with an outstanding 21 of those scored in the first half.
The towering 7-foot-1 center made his presence felt early, executing back-to-back one-handed dunks against Tyler Bilodeau, who was significantly smaller, being 4 inches shorter and 20 pounds lighter. During the second dunk, Bilodeau was sent sprawling to the floor.
Adding to Michigan’s success, Tre Donaldson contributed 20 points to their scoring effort. The Wolverines built a commanding lead, going up by as many as 18 points during the first half. However, they ended the half with a scoring drought of over two minutes, taking a 47-37 advantage into the locker room.
For UCLA, Bilodeau and Sebastian Mack each scored 17 points, leading a group of four players in double figures as the Bruins fought to keep pace. Despite their efforts, the defeat marked the second consecutive loss for UCLA in the Big Ten conference, bringing their record to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
In a significant turnaround, the Bruins started the second half strong with an 18-4 run that gave them their first lead of the night. However, their momentum quickly faded as they went without a field goal for over seven minutes, allowing Michigan to capitalize by making seven three-pointers during that stretch. Donaldson was particularly impactful, scoring 14 points during this run, which pushed Michigan ahead by 12 points.
A standout statistic from the game was Michigan’s shooting accuracy, with the team successfully converting 54 percent (15-28) of their three-point attempts. Donaldson was particularly effective, nailing six shots from beyond the arc. In stark contrast, UCLA struggled from long range, going scoreless on all nine of their three-point attempts in the first half and finishing the game with just two successful attempts out of 20.
Looking ahead, Michigan will host Washington, a newcomer to the Big Ten, this coming Sunday, while UCLA is set to travel to Maryland on Friday to begin a two-game trip on the East Coast.
