A spider monkey dressed in a bright pink tutu managed to escape from a residence in Missouri just ahead of an impending winter storm.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office shared details of the amusing incident on their Facebook page, calling the situation “Bananas.”
The escapade unfolded on Friday afternoon when the monkey was spotted at a highway junction close to the town of Otto, situated south of St. Louis. The playful primate had been living in a nearby home but cleverly figured out how to open a door to make its way outside.
With some skillful persuasion and a lot of patience, sheriff’s deputies were able to capture the monkey and return it to its caretaker. Pictures shared by the sheriff’s office depict a deputy crouching down as the tutu-wearing monkey approached and grabbed hold of his hands.
This incident was highlighted by the sheriff’s office as an exemplary case of their officers’ readiness to tackle unexpected scenarios.
The timing of the capture was particularly important, as a winter storm began to sweep through the area on Saturday, bringing with it heavy snow and ice, which resulted in road closures and a significant drop in temperature.
