LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — UIC’s basketball team overcame Little Rock with a final score of 77-69 in a thrilling matchup where overtime played a crucial role. Sasa Ciani and Filip Skobalj were pivotal for the Flames, each contributing 15 points to the victory. In addition, Tyem Freeman stepped up in overtime, scoring five of his nine points to help secure the win on Sunday.
Ciani also had a standout performance, pulling down 10 rebounds to complement his scoring. Skobalj was particularly effective from beyond the arc, making 5 of 11 attempts from three-point range. Another offensive contributor for UIC was Javon Jackson, who had 13 points, including three crucial free throws that tied the game at 64 just before regulation ended, pushing the game into overtime.
On the opposing side, the Trojans were led by Johnathan Lawson, who delivered an impressive 25 points along with eight rebounds. Isaiah Lewis supported the effort with 11 points and two steals, while Tuongthach Gatkek made his mark with a double-double, scoring 10 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and providing five assists.
In the first half, Skobalj scored nine points but the Flames entered halftime trailing by a narrow margin of 32-30. However, he gave a critical boost to UIC in overtime by sinking a key three-pointer with just 2:45 remaining, which allowed the Flames to take a 68-65 lead that they maintained until the final whistle.
