LOS ANGELES — In a thrilling finish on Saturday night, Will Johnston emerged as the standout player for Loyola Marymount, scoring 23 points, including the decisive layup just as the game clock hit one second, leading the Lions to a narrow 76-75 victory over Prairie View A&M.
Johnston showcased his shooting prowess, making 6 of 10 attempts from the field, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, and impressively converting all 7 of his free throw attempts. In support, Caleb Stone-Carrawell contributed significantly with 17 points, hitting 6 of 12 shots overall and going 4 for 5 from the foul line. Aaron McBride also played a crucial role, adding 12 points with an efficient 6 of 8 shooting performance.
In a tightly contested ending, Johnston was fouled while making a 3-pointer, successfully completing an and-1 that put LMU ahead 74-73 with just 24 seconds left on the clock.
