In West Lafayette, Indiana, the Kentucky women’s basketball team delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, defeating Purdue with a score of 82-52. Amelia Hassett led the charge for Kentucky, posting a season-best 22 points, while Georgia Amoore contributed 21 points. The Wildcats improved their record to 9-1 with this decisive victory.
Clara Strack also made a notable impact with a double-double, recording 12 points and 12 rebounds. Teonni Key played a strong supporting role, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds, just shy of her sixth double-double of the season. Additionally, Dazia Lawrence added 13 points to the team’s tally.
For Purdue, which now holds a 5-5 record, Lana McCarthy was the standout player with 12 points and seven rebounds. Despite a slow start, the Wildcats rebounded effectively. After trailing 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, Kentucky exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Purdue by 24 points. Amoore was instrumental during this period, contributing nine points and ensuring a 32-23 lead by halftime.
As the game progressed into the third quarter, Kentucky maintained control. They led by just six points, 39-33, with approximately five minutes left, and then went on a scoring spree, finishing the quarter with a 13-point run to extend their lead to 52-33. Hassett was a key player in this push, scoring the last six points of the run.
With just 90 seconds remaining, Key’s layup pushed the lead to 30 points, and in the dying moments of the game, Clara Silva scored, allowing Kentucky to hold onto that substantial lead. Over the last three quarters, Kentucky outscored Purdue by a remarkable margin of 74-40.
Currently, Purdue leads the all-time series against Kentucky with a record of 2-1. Looking ahead, Kentucky has two remaining nonconference games scheduled against Belmont and Western Kentucky this month, before kicking off their SEC season at home against Mississippi State on January 2.
