Two individuals with ties to the Islamic State and another potential accomplice have been detained in Germany on suspicion of plotting an attack, according to authorities. The arrests took place on Sunday, involving two brothers of Lebanese descent, aged 15 and 20, from Mannheim, as well as a 22-year-old man of Turkish descent from the nearby state of Hesse.

The brothers are reportedly under investigation for their intentions to carry out an attack driven by their beliefs and a significant admiration for the Islamic State. They are alleged to have acquired an assault rifle and ammunition as part of their preparation. The authorities indicated that the weapon was discovered in the residence of the 22-year-old suspect.

In addition to the firearm, investigators uncovered various items, including a balaclava, a bulletproof vest, numerous knives, and cellphones during their search. A judge has since ruled that the suspects will remain in custody while the case continues to develop and an indictment could be on the horizon.

Law enforcement officials and prosecutors emphasized that there was no immediate threat to the public throughout this investigation. They refrained from providing details on whether there was a specific plan or target for the alleged attack.
