EVANSVILLE, Ind. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers triumphed over the Evansville Purple Aces with a final score of 79-65, bolstered by Babacar Faye’s impressive performance.
Faye contributed significantly to the Hilltoppers’ effort, scoring 19 points and securing 12 rebounds, showcasing his all-around skills.
Other notable contributions came from Don McHenry, who netted 17 points and made three steals, while Julius Thedford added 16 points to the scoreboard, shooting 4 for 7 from the field and converting 7 of 9 shots from the charity stripe.
On the other side of the court, Cameron Haffner led the Purple Aces with a strong outing of 19 points, in addition to pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Gabriel Pozzato also shone for Evansville, matching Haffner’s 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds and making two steals.
Tayshawn Comer contributed 12 points to the effort, although it wasn’t enough to secure a victory for the Aces.
A pivotal moment in the game came when Western Kentucky executed a commanding 10-0 run during the second half, which allowed them to extend their lead to 14 points, putting them ahead 55-41 with 12:30 left on the clock.
The Hilltoppers maintained control for the remainder of the contest, ultimately sealing their victory on the road.
