FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — In an impressive display of skill and determination, Adou Thiero contributed significantly to Arkansas’s 75-60 comeback win against UTSA on Saturday. Thiero recorded an impressive 26 points along with 10 rebounds, tying his career-best performance. He achieved this by successfully converting 8 out of 10 shots taken from the field and making 10 of 13 attempts from the charity stripe. Thiero’s previous double-double was during last season’s matchup against the reigning No. 1 Kansas, where he notched 16 points and a personal best of 13 rebounds in an 89-84 defeat.
Johnell Davis also had a noteworthy performance, contributing three of the Razorbacks’ five three-pointers while adding 13 points to the scoreboard. Meanwhile, for the Roadrunners, Primo Spears and Marc Millender both made significant impacts, each sinking three long-range shots and scoring 19 and 18 points respectively.
UTSA started strong, led by Spears, who hit all three of his three-point attempts in the first half and accumulated a total of 11 points. This strong performance allowed the Roadrunners to gain a 32-27 lead at halftime. However, Arkansas struggled, shooting only 38.5% overall and converting just 3 of 9 from beyond the arc along with 4 of 8 from the free-throw line in the first half.
The momentum shifted at the beginning of the second half when Thiero initiated scoring with a three-point play, followed by a two-point basket that tied the game. Shortly after, Davis hit a three-pointer, giving Arkansas the lead for good. Thiero continued his strong performance, scoring 17 points in the second half alone, while Davis added another 10 points to help push the team forward.
The Razorbacks displayed a much-improved shooting percentage in the second half at 66.7%, successfully making 18 of 27 attempts and hitting 10 out of 11 from the free-throw line. Looking ahead, Arkansas is set to face Michigan at Madison Square Garden in New York during the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday.
