Joaquin Niemann secured victory at the Saudi International, triumphing over Cameron Smith and Caleb Surrat in an intense playoff that showcased his exceptional skills. Niemann executed a precise lob shot to within a foot for birdie on the second extra hole, marking his first win in nine months on the Asian Tour.

With a final round score of 4-under 67, Niemann concluded the year with three tournament wins, including two during the opening phase of the LIV Golf League season. This recent win in Saudi Arabia highlights his developing prowess, as it stands as his second triumph in the country this year.

Cameron Smith’s performance was commendable as he charged back with an impressive score of 62 to enter the playoff. Unfortunately for Niemann and Surrat, both players faced challenges on the 18th hole, leading to bogeys that allowed Smith to catch up.

During the playoff, all three players made birdies on the first extra hole. However, Smith and Surrat failed to capitalize on their birdie putts, while Niemann successfully converted his, sealing his victory.

This win positions Niemann at the top of the International Series ranking on the Asian Tour, surpassing competitors Peter Uihlein and Ben Campbell. Following this achievement, Niemann is anticipated to ascend into the top 75 of the world rankings. This win also represents his first outside of the LIV tour since he clinched the Australian Open a year prior, which had led to a special invitation for the Masters.
