JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to place quarterback Trevor Lawrence on injured reserve for the remainder of the season due to a recent concussion. With their chances of making the playoffs eliminated, the Jaguars made this move official on Wednesday. While Lawrence could potentially return for the season’s final game against the Indianapolis Colts, it is widely believed that he will not take the field again this year.

To fill the vacant spot left by Lawrence, the team has acquired wide receiver Josh Reynolds off waivers from the Denver Broncos. Reynolds, 29, has recorded 12 receptions for 183 yards and a touchdown during the current season. Meanwhile, Mac Jones has been designated as the starter in place of Lawrence for this Sunday’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

Lawrence suffered the concussion after being struck violently in the face mask by Azeez Al-Shaair of the Houston Texans, an incident that led to significant chaos on the field, including a brawl between players. Following the hit, Lawrence was left in a vulnerable position, indicative of a serious brain injury, and remained on the ground for an extended period as teammates and opponents descended into a fracas nearby. He was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion diagnosis.

This latest injury adds to the growing list of health issues Lawrence has faced this season, which include missing a game earlier in 2023 due to a sprained right shoulder. He also dealt with a sprained left knee in October, a sprained right ankle in early December, and a concussion he sustained just two weeks prior to this incident.

Over the course of 10 games this season, Lawrence has thrown for 2,045 yards, tossing 11 touchdown passes while also recording seven interceptions. In a move to bolster their quarterback options, the Jaguars have also added John Wolford to the practice squad.
