OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens have decided to suspend wide receiver Diontae Johnson for their next matchup following an incident where he refused to play in their recent game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Johnson was notably absent from Sunday’s defeat against the Eagles, even with fellow receiver Rashod Bateman struggling with knee issues. Head coach John Harbaugh refrained from discussing the situation concerning Johnson after the game, and continued to maintain silence when speaking to the media on Monday.

On Wednesday, general manager Eric DeCosta issued a formal statement regarding the situation: “We have made the challenging decision to suspend Diontae Johnson for our upcoming game against the New York Giants due to conduct that is detrimental to the team. This suspension is a result of Diontae’s refusal to enter the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. We will not provide any further comments related to this matter.”

The Ravens are currently on a bye week and will prepare to face the Giants on December 15. Efforts to obtain a comment from Johnson’s agent were unsuccessful.

Diontae Johnson, who was acquired from the Carolina Panthers during October while in the final year of his contract, has had a challenging time integrating with the Ravens, making only one catch over four games since joining the team.
