ANAHEIM, Calif. — In a thrilling matchup, Troy Terry highlighted the Ducks’ performance with three assists and netted the decisive goal during the shootout, leading the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-3 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
Terry’s impressive play marked a four-game point streak, during which he has collected seven assists. In the shootout, he scored in the second round, putting the Ducks ahead. Trevor Zegras later added another goal in the third round after Anaheim’s goaltender, Lukas Dostal, successfully saved shots from Ottawa’s Tim Stützle and Josh Norris.
Frank Vatrano also had an outstanding game, contributing two goals and an assist while Jackson LaCombe chipped in with a goal of his own. Ryan Strome assisted on two of the goals, and Dostal made 29 saves to keep his team in the lead.
On the Senators’ side, Brady Tkachuk recorded his second two-goal game of the season, with Nick Cousins scoring the team’s other goal. Goaltender Linus Ullmark put in a solid performance, saving 32 shots throughout the contest.
Stützle, who earned an assist, extended his point streak to seven games, equaling his career-best achievement. He has totaled 10 goals and 20 assists so far this season, making him the fastest player for Ottawa to reach 30 points in a season since Matt Duchene did it in 24 games during the 2018-19 season.
In terms of team statistics, the Ducks established the first goal of the game, marking the 16th time they have done so this season, which is tied with Minnesota for the highest in the league. Anaheim boasts a record of 9-4-3 when scoring first.
A critical moment in the game occurred when Ottawa leveled the score at 3-3 just 71 seconds after Vatrano’s second goal. Collins redirected Michael Amadio’s shot, pushing the puck past Dostal. Vatrano’s earlier effort put the Ducks up 3-2 early in the third period when he capitalized on a loose puck in front of the net and fired a wrist shot through Ullmark’s legs.
Notably, both Vatrano and Terry reached eight three-point games since the start of the 2022-23 season, which is tied for the most on the Ducks during that stretch.
Looking ahead, the Senators are set to host the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, while the Ducks will welcome the Vegas Golden Knights to their home ice on Wednesday.
