A tragic bus accident occurred Sunday evening close to a ski resort in southern France, leading to the deaths of at least two individuals and leaving 14 others injured, according to local officials.
The bus, carrying a total of 47 passengers, including the driver, was involved in the incident near the Porte-Puymorens ski resort, as reported by regional authorities. Seven of those injured were transported to hospitals for treatment.
Initial investigations by local officials revealed that the bus collided with a cliff, although the specific details of how the accident unfolded remain unclear at this time.
Photos shared by local fire services depicted the bus wedged against a cliffside, with significant damage to its right side and the windshield seemingly shattered.
Emergency responders, numbering over 120, took part in the rescue operations, with assistance coming from nearby Catalonia in Spain and Andorra. Helicopters were also enlisted to help within the rescue efforts.
According to emergency services in Catalonia, the ill-fated bus had started its journey from L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a suburb located near Barcelona, Spain.
