NEW YORK — An investigation is underway following an incident involving a Russian national who boarded a Delta flight to Paris without a ticket from John F. Kennedy International Airport. The individual was apprehended upon the flight’s arrival at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
Delta Flight 264 took off from JFK on Tuesday evening and arrived in Paris the following day, transporting a stowaway who somehow managed to navigate past security measures. Authorities stated that police boarded the aircraft as soon as it landed, as captured in a video shared online by a passenger. In the clip, the captain can be heard announcing that they are awaiting police arrival on the plane.
According to Daniel Velez, a representative from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the stowaway was screened at JFK despite lacking a boarding pass and did not have any items that were prohibited. “TSA takes any incidents that occur at any of our checkpoints nationwide seriously,” Velez mentioned, adding that an independent review of the incident at JFK’s travel document checker station would be conducted.
A spokesperson for Delta emphasized the airline’s commitment to safety and security, stating that they are carrying out a thorough investigation of the event and will collaborate with relevant aviation authorities and law enforcement agencies as part of this process.
The French National Police later confirmed that a passenger of Russian nationality was smuggled onto the flight from JFK to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle. They noted that this individual was denied entry into France due to a lack of valid travel documents, specifically a visa, and was subsequently held in a waiting area until arrangements could be made to return her to the United States, where she possessed a valid US residence permit.
A representative from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees JFK Airport operations, refrained from commenting on the matter.
