BARCELONA, Spain — Lamine Yamal is set to make his comeback for Barcelona following his recovery from a right ankle injury, as announced by coach Hansi Flick on Friday.
Flick indicated that the talented young player will take to the field during Barcelona’s match against Las Palmas on Saturday, whether as a starting player or coming off the bench.
“He’s back and he is ready to play,” Flick stated. “We haven’t made a final decision yet regarding whether he will start. We’ll see how it goes. However, I believe he can and will play.”
Yamal sustained his injury during a 5-2 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League three weeks ago. The 17-year-old forward was sidelined for three games with Barcelona and missed two matches for the Spanish national team in the Nations League during his rehabilitation.
Barcelona experienced difficulties in Yamal’s absence, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad and drawing 2-2 against Celta Vigo in La Liga before achieving a 3-0 triumph over Brest in the Champions League.
The young player, who played a crucial role in helping Spain win the 2024 European Championship, currently leads La Liga with seven assists for Barcelona. He has also netted five goals in the domestic league this season.
Barcelona sits at the top of La Liga, holding a four-point advantage over Real Madrid, who has one additional game to play.
