Dodgers appoint Chris Woodward as first base coach

The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially announced the appointment of Chris Woodward as their new first base coach, marking his return to manager Dave Roberts’ coaching team. This development was confirmed late Friday evening.

Previously, Woodward held the position of first base coach for the Dodgers from 2016 to 2018 before stepping into a managerial role with the Texas Rangers. He takes over the role left vacant by Clayton McCullough, who recently transitioned to the position of manager for the Miami Marlins.

During his nearly four-year tenure with the Rangers, Woodward recorded a win-loss record of 211-287. In the past two seasons, he has served as a senior advisor within the Dodgers’ Major League and Player Development team, contributing to the organization in various capacities.

Brandon Gomes, the Dodgers’ executive vice president and general manager, indicated that Woodward will oversee base running and infield coaching. Meanwhile, Dino Ebel, who previously managed those areas, will now focus on outfield responsibilities, further shaping the team’s coaching structure as they prepare for a competitive season ahead.
