San Antonio – Robert Henry delivered an impressive performance with 178 rushing yards on just 16 carries, adding two touchdowns as UTSA dominated Temple for a 51-27 win on Friday evening, showcasing a series of big plays throughout the game.
With this victory, UTSA (6-5, 4-3 in the American Athletic Conference) secured bowl eligibility and extended their home winning streak to nine games, winning 17 of their last 18 home contests.
Henry’s impactful start came with a 40-yard touchdown run during the Roadrunners’ opening drive. They swiftly expanded their lead to 14-3 early in the second quarter, thanks to quarterback Owen McCown’s impressive 75-yard dash to the goal line. The excitement continued when Chris Carpenter executed a 97-yard kickoff return, boosting the score to 21-10.
McCown completed the game with 220 passing yards, recording one touchdown alongside two interceptions. He also contributed in the ground game with 75 rushing yards on six carries, scoring one touchdown as well.
For Temple (3-8, 2-5), quarterback Evan Simon threw for 219 yards, achieving two touchdowns while also tossing two interceptions. His notable connection with Dante Wright resulted in a 61-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 31-24. Wright was a standout for the Owls, catching five passes for 128 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
This match marked the second encounter between UTSA and Temple, with the Roadrunners victorious last season in their first AAC clash, winning that game 49-34.
During the current season, UTSA faced all four FBS teams that bear the nickname Owls, which included Florida Atlantic, Kennesaw State, Rice, and Temple, suffering only one defeat against Rice.
