RIVERDALE, N.Y. — In a thrilling finish, Shaquil Bender intercepted a crucial inbounds pass with just 4.5 seconds remaining, setting up Wesley Robinson to deliver the decisive basket as time ran out, leading Manhattan to an 80-79 victory over Army on Friday evening.
Jaden Winston was the standout performer for Manhattan, scoring 17 points along with contributing five rebounds, five assists, and five steals, helping the Jaspers improve their record to 3-2. Masiah Gilyard also made a significant impact, netting 14 points with an efficient shooting performance, hitting 4 out of 7 attempts from the field, including 1 of 3 from beyond the arc, while also converting all five of his free-throw attempts. Bender added to the scoring an additional 14 points, managing to make 6 of his 16 shots overall, including 2 from 5 three-point attempts.
On the other side, Jalen Rucker was the leading scorer for the Black Knights, finishing the game with 20 points alongside two steals. AJ Allenspach contributed a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Josh Scovens added 15 points of his own, to go with five assists and four blocks, showcasing a balanced offensive effort for Army as they fell to 3-3 for the season.
