DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones demonstrated exceptional skill, scoring 21 points to lead UC San Diego to a 73-67 victory over James Madison on Friday evening.
In addition to his scoring prowess, Tait-Jones contributed six rebounds to help the Tritons, who now have a record of 4-2 for the season. Hayden Gray played a significant role as well, posting 16 points along with four steals. Nordin Kapic added to the team’s success by converting 5 of 8 field-goal attempts, including one out of four from beyond the arc, concluding the game with 12 points.
For James Madison, who fell to 3-3, Bryce Lindsay was the top scorer, earning 17 points. Xavier Brown also had a solid outing, finishing with 13 points and providing four assists for the Dukes.
Entering halftime, UC San Diego held a slight edge over James Madison, leading 34-28. Tait-Jones was pivotal in the first half, having scored 14 points. The Tritons secured control of the game with 5:46 remaining in the second half, when Tait-Jones hit a free throw, putting his team ahead 58-57.
This victory signifies a positive step for the Tritons, showcasing their determination and teamwork as they look to build on their early successes in the season.
