Ewers tosses two TDs as Texas defense propels No. 3 Longhorns to 20-10 win over Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Quinn Ewers delivered a solid performance, accumulating 176 passing yards and throwing two touchdown passes, as No. 3 Texas secured a 20-10 victory over Arkansas on Saturday.

Ewers threw a critical 1-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Golden, culminating an eight-play, 75-yard drive that established a two-score advantage for the Longhorns with just over nine minutes remaining. He completed 20 of 32 attempts and also connected with Golden for the game’s opening touchdown.

Arkansas had a chance to seize the lead during their drive before Texas stretched the margin early in the fourth quarter, reaching all the way to Texas’ 26-yard line. However, the Longhorns’ defense held firm, forcing Arkansas to settle for a 44-yard field goal from Matthew Shipley, which narrowed their deficit to 13-10.

Texas appeared to seal the game on Arkansas’ subsequent possession when Taylen Green found CJ Brown at the Texas 40, but Brown fumbled the ball, and Michael Taaffe recovered for the Longhorns. Ewers then converted a critical fourth-and-1 with just two minutes remaining, allowing Texas to control the clock and secure the win.

Entering the contest, Arkansas was fifth in the Football Bowl Subdivision with an impressive average of 484 yards per game. However, they struggled significantly, punting six times out of their first seven possessions and recording just 231 total yards, including an interception. Green finished the game with 17 completions on 25 attempts for 149 yards and a pick, while Ja’Quinden Jackson returned from an ankle injury to contribute 56 rushing yards on 11 carries, scoring Arkansas’ only touchdown in the third quarter.

In terms of the bigger picture, this loss marked Arkansas’ second consecutive defeat, as they remain one win away from becoming bowl-eligible with two games left in the season. Meanwhile, Texas may not have dazzled offensively, but their performance was sufficient to earn a road victory over a traditional rival.

Looking ahead, Arkansas is set to host Louisiana Tech next Saturday, while Texas will welcome Kentucky to their home ground.
