CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — In an impressive display, Elliot Cadeau and Jalen Washington each contributed 18 points as No. 10 North Carolina cruised to a commanding 107-55 win against American on Friday night. The Tar Heels dominated the second half, demonstrating their offensive prowess.
Cadeau was instrumental early on, scoring 11 of North Carolina’s first 23 points, while Washington showcased an outstanding performance, hitting all six of his shots from the field and converting six out of seven free throws. Other notable performances came from RJ Davis and Seth Trimble, who each added 13 points, along with Cade Tyson, who came off the bench to score 11 points. This match marked a comeback for the Tar Heels, who were seeking redemption after a narrow loss to the top-ranked Kansas team a week prior.
With this victory, North Carolina improved to 2-1 this season, marking their first 50-plus point win in six years. They completely outperformed American in the latter half, outscoring them 64-21.
For American, Matt Rogers led the team with 15 points, and Elijah Stephens made a notable contribution off the bench with 12 points. Despite their efforts, the Eagles struggled to find their rhythm from beyond the arc, finishing with a disappointing 7 for 31 shooting from three-point territory.
One of the turning points in the game came after North Carolina started with a grim shooting spree from three, missing their first 10 attempts. However, the momentum shifted when Tyson and Trimble hit consecutive long-range shots, pushing their lead to 64-45.
A significant statistic from the game highlighted North Carolina’s dominance in foul shots, outscoring their opponents 28-10 from the charity stripe. American did not earn their first free throw until the second half, contrasting sharply with North Carolina’s 19 attempts before halftime.
Looking ahead, American will remain local to challenge High Point on Monday night, while North Carolina prepares for an upcoming game against Hawaii next Friday.
