The Vegas Golden Knights have secured defenseman Brayden McNabb on a three-year contract extension valued at $10.95 million, solidifying the presence of one of their foundational players as the franchise approaches its ten-year milestone.
This new deal will see McNabb, who will celebrate his 34th birthday in January, have a salary cap hit of $3.65 million from the start of the agreement next season through to the end of the 2027-28 season.
A key player selected during the Golden Knights’ 2017 expansion draft, McNabb played an essential role in the team’s remarkable journey to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural year and their championship win in 2023. McNabb stands out as the franchise’s all-time leader with 518 games played, along with impressive totals of 1,256 hits and 1,144 blocked shots. Over his tenure, he has logged more than 10,205 minutes on the ice, more than any other player wearing a Vegas uniform.
This marks the third contract extension McNabb has received from the organization; he previously signed extensions worth $2.5 million in 2017 and $2.85 million in 2022 prior to this latest agreement. Had this extension not come through, he would have faced unrestricted free agency next summer.
The new contract secures another experienced defenseman within the organization for the long term, alongside Alex Pietrangelo, who is locked in for $8.8 million annually until 2027. Other defensemen with extended contracts include Zach Whitecloud at $2.75 million through 2028 and both Shea Theodore ($7.425 million) and Noah Hanifin ($7.35 million) through 2032. The organization may also be looking to negotiate with Nicolas Hague, who is soon to be a restricted free agent as he nears his 26th birthday.
McNabb has been an integral part of the Golden Knights for the last eight seasons after having spent parts of five seasons with the Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings prior to that. This season, he has contributed two points in the first 16 games while averaging close to 20 minutes of ice time each game.
