CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns have faced another challenge as rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. sustained a knee injury during practice this week. This incident raises concerns for the team’s promising draft pick for the upcoming 2024 season.

Head Coach Kevin Stefanski reported that Hall injured himself during a drill on Thursday as the Browns prepared for their upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints (3-7). Hall has been ruled out for this matchup, with Stefanski indicating that Hall may be placed on injured reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. However, the coach did not disclose whether Hall will need surgical intervention for his injury.

Hall, a second-round draft choice from Ohio State, has had a rocky start to his professional career. He faced legal issues during the summer when he was arrested on a domestic violence charge, which was later reduced to a disorderly conduct plea.

Following this incident in August, Hall was put on the commissioner’s exempt list and received a five-game suspension from the league. He made his NFL debut in Week 6 against Philadelphia and was anticipated to receive additional playing time at defensive end due to the recent trade of Za’Darius Smith to Detroit.

On Thursday, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz praised Hall’s athletic ability, noting that it makes him a versatile player and a suitable candidate for the defensive end position. The Browns were eager to cultivate Hall, along with other younger talent, during a season that has not gone as expected.

As the team continues to navigate a challenging year, Hall’s situation adds to the uncertainty surrounding the franchise’s immediate future.
