Buffalo, N.Y. — In an exciting overtime showdown, Rasmus Dahlin found the back of the net just 1:33 into extra play, securing a 4-3 victory for the Buffalo Sabres over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday evening.
Dahlin’s decisive goal highlighted a solid performance from the Sabres, who have now claimed four victories out of their last five games. Alex Tuch and Ryan McLeod both contributed to the scoreboard with one goal and one assist each, while Zach Benson also joined the fray with a goal. Goaltender Devon Levi was notable in the net as well, recording a total of 24 saves throughout the match.
On the other side, Brandon Saad stood out for the Blues, scoring two goals as the team continues to struggle, now with an unfortunate record of 0-3-1 in their last four outings. Pavel Buchnevich also managed to score, but it wasn’t enough to change the Blues’ fortunes on this night. St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington was busy, stopping 29 shots from Buffalo as he fought to keep his team in the game.
St. Louis initially had a 3-2 lead until Tuch leveled the score with 7:03 left in regulation. Dahlin’s power-play goal in overtime marked his fourth tally of the season, further establishing his impact on the ice.
A critical moment arose late in the third period when Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist was penalized for goaltender interference in the final 30 seconds. This infraction allowed the Sabres to maintain possession and begin overtime with a full two-minute power play.
In terms of individual performance, Benson has been impressive since returning from injury, with goals in three of his five games since recovering from an ankle issue sustained on November 5.
Looking ahead, the Sabres are set to embark on a four-game road trip beginning on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers. Meanwhile, the Blues will continue their own three-game journey with a matchup against the Boston Bruins that same afternoon.
