DOVER, Del. — The No. 19 Mississippi women’s basketball team achieved an impressive 80-42 victory against Delaware State on Thursday. Starr Jacobs led the team with 18 points while Madison Scott contributed 13 points in a game that had special significance for Scott, who hails from Indian Head, Maryland, located roughly 100 miles from Dover.
Freshman Sira Thienou and Kennedy Todd-Williams also made notable contributions, scoring 13 points each. Todd-Williams particularly stood out as she secured nine rebounds, helping Mississippi dominate the boards with a 38-21 advantage over Delaware State.
The Rebels entered the game on a high note after dismantling Arkansas-Pine Bluff 85-24 just a few days earlier, where they set a program record by holding their opponents to the fewest points in history. That match also marked one of the largest margins of victory in the program’s history.
For Delaware State, Kiarra McElrath was the standout player, scoring 13 points, while Mahogany Cottingham added 10 points. However, the Hornets faced challenges, committing 23 turnovers that allowed Mississippi to convert those mistakes into 30 points.
Earlier on the same day, Coppin State, another member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, took on the top-ranked South Carolina team, highlighting the competitive spirit of the league.
