In Turin, Italy, world number one Jannik Sinner has secured his place in the semifinals of the ATP Finals, becoming the first player to accomplish this feat on Thursday.
His advancement was confirmed when Taylor Fritz, the runner-up at the U.S. Open, triumphed over Alex de Minaur with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in their matchup.
Sinner opened his campaign with two victories and is scheduled to face Daniil Medvedev later. Last season, he fell short in the final against Novak Djokovic, who has since withdrawn from the tournament due to injury this year.
Fritz has also achieved two wins in the tournament, while Medvedev remains in contention and could equal Sinner’s win count with a victory. De Minaur, unfortunately, did not manage to secure a win in his first finals appearance and has been mathematically eliminated from advancing.
The tournament format allows the top two players from each group to move forward to the semifinals, raising the stakes for the remaining competitors.
In the other group, Alexander Zverev is leading, followed closely by Casper Ruud, Carlos Alcaraz, and Andrey Rublev.
