PHILADELPHIA — In a competitive matchup on Tuesday evening, Zion Stanford delivered a standout performance, scoring 23 points to help lead Temple to a 69-61 victory over Drexel.
Stanford had an impressive shooting night, hitting 9 out of 13 attempts from the field, which included draining 2 of his 4 shots from beyond the arc. Additionally, he converted 3 of 7 attempts from the free-throw line, contributing significantly to the Owls’ early season success, as they improved to a record of 3-0.
Jamal Mashburn Jr. was another key player for Temple, adding 20 points to the scoreboard. He shot 5 for 16 overall, with 1 of his 3 attempts from long range finding its way in. His efficiency from the free-throw line was noteworthy as well, making 9 out of 10 attempts while also grabbing five rebounds, further supporting his team.
On the opposition’s side, Drexel’s Kobe Magee led his team with 17 points. Cole Hargrove contributed notably as well, not only scoring 15 points but also pulling down 12 rebounds. Yame Butler chipped in with 13 points, offering four assists and securing two steals, showcasing his all-around game.
Temple seized control of the game midway through the first half, taking the lead with 10:46 remaining. They maintained this advantage, heading into halftime with a score of 37-32, where Stanford had already put up an impressive 19 points. Mashburn continued to excel in the second half, adding 15 points to his tally to ensure his team’s victory.
