Calzada tosses 5 TDs as Incarnate Word remains undefeated in Southland Conference play

SAN ANTONIO — In an impressive display, Zach Calzada threw five touchdown passes, leading Incarnate Word to a 41-20 victory over Lamar on Saturday, which allows the team to maintain its unbeaten record in the Southland Conference.

Calzada completed 23 of 33 passes for a total of 402 yards, with three of those touchdowns being caught by Roy Alexander, who had a standout game with eight receptions for 163 yards. Additionally, Jalen Walthall shone for the team, recording 165 yards on seven catches, while Dekalon Taylor contributed with 98 rushing yards on 15 attempts.

With this win, Incarnate Word improved to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play, holding the eighth spot in the FCS coaches poll. The team amassed a remarkable 606 total yards of offense during the match.

Calzada’s performance included a pivotal 6-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Lowe early in the third quarter, extending Incarnate Word’s lead to 27-13. The team sealed their scoring with a spectacular 56-yard touchdown reception from Alexander in the middle of the fourth quarter.

On the other side, Robbie Coleman represented Lamar effectively, throwing for 238 yards and three touchdowns. However, Lamar struggled with turnovers, committing three, while Incarnate Word had two turnovers of their own.
