PHOENIX — At the age of 67, Bernhard Langer continues to showcase his exceptional skills on the golf course, shooting an impressive 4-under 67 at Phoenix Country Club. This performance allows the German golf legend to position himself to possibly extend his remarkable 18-year winning streak on the PGA Tour Champions. Langer’s career is adorned with a record-breaking 46 victories on the tour, and he has successfully shot his age or lower on 22 different occasions.

Holding a one-stroke lead in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship, Langer’s play is drawing attention as he pursues yet another triumph. Defending champion Steven Alker, who sits in second place, played an impressive round, scoring a 63. He is in contention to surpass Ernie Els in the season standings, with the top position offering a lucrative $1 million bonus. As for Els, he currently sits tied for 14th place following a round of 71.

Alker experienced an exciting moment during his round, achieving five consecutive birdies, though he finished with six pars to end his day. Richard Green follows closely, ranking third with a score of 11 under after also shooting a 63. Other notable scores include Alex Cejka with a 68, placing him at 10 under, and Jerry Kelly, who is 9 under after posting a 66.

Stewart Cink, who had been leading the tournament by three strokes after the first two rounds, faced a setback with a 75, dropping him down to 8 under. In total, the top 36 players based on points qualified for this prestigious event, with Steve Stricker being the only qualified player absent from the field. Stricker has yet to participate in a postseason tournament on the PGA Tour Champions. Currently, Langer holds the 22nd position in the standings and continues to make headlines as he strives for further success in his illustrious golfing career.
