Sparks nets 17 points in Ball State’s 87-60 victory over Franklin

MUNCIE, Ind. — On Friday night, Ball State put on an impressive performance, defeating Division III’s Franklin with a commanding score of 87-60. The Cardinals showcased their skills, with Payton Sparks leading the charge, scoring 17 points throughout the game while also grabbing five rebounds to contribute to the team’s success.

In addition to Sparks, Jermahri Hill also shined, matching Sparks by scoring 17 points as he made six of his eleven attempts from the field and had a solid outing at the charity stripe, sinking five of nine free throws. Mickey Pearson Jr. also played a significant role, adding 15 points to the scoreboard after shooting five of eight from the floor and hitting five out of six free Throw attempts.

The Grizzlies’ scoring efforts were led by Braden Flanagan, who managed to accumulate 18 points on the night. Franklin’s Braylon Russell contributed eight points along with two steals, while Ryan Bostic chipped in with seven points in the contest.

Ball State took control of the game with 8:36 left in the first half, establishing a lead they would maintain for the remainder of the match. At halftime, the Cardinals were ahead by a score of 44-28, largely thanks to Sparks, who scored eight points in the first half. In the second half, Ball State surged ahead with a decisive 13-2 run, increasing their 10-point lead to as much as 21 points. They ultimately outscored Franklin by 11 points in that second half, with Hill leading the team in scoring during that period, netting 11 points.

This dominant win brings Ball State’s season record to 1-1, showcasing their capabilities as they continue their campaign. The Cardinals look poised to build on this performance as they move forward.
