Sao Paulo, Brazil – On Friday afternoon, armed assailants in a black vehicle opened fire at Guarulhos International Airport. This violent incident resulted in the death of one individual and left three others injured.
Authorities have confirmed the identity of the deceased as Antônio Vinícius Lopes Gritzbach. Reports indicate that he had been facing threats to his life from the First Command of the Capital, which is known as a significant criminal syndicate in Brazil. Gritzbach was involved in cryptocurrency ventures and had recently agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors, in which he was set to provide information regarding his connections to this criminal group.
As of now, law enforcement officials have not disclosed how many attackers were involved in the shooting incident. Footage shared on social media captured two victims at the airport, with one lying on the ground at Terminal 2 — designated mainly for domestic flights — and the other positioned on a nearby access road outside the terminal.
The authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this brazen attack, and additional details may emerge as the investigation unfolds. The situation has raised alarms regarding safety at major transportation hubs and the ongoing threats posed by organized crime in the region.
