DALLAS — In an impressive display of teamwork and skill, Kevin “Boopie” Miller led SMU to a commanding victory over Florida A&M with a performance that included 20 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists on Thursday night. His contribution was complemented by Yohan Traore, who contributed significantly with 19 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Mustangs achieve a score of 102-73.
Chuck Harris also played a vital role, hitting four of his six attempts from beyond the arc to finish the game with 15 points. Other noteworthy performances included B.J. Edwards, who notched 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, and Keon Ambrose-Hylton, who added 10 points to the scoreboard.
Miller, who had an impressive previous season at Wake Forest where he started in all 35 games and averaged 15.6 points per game, was particularly impactful in the first half, scoring 17 points. This helped SMU establish a significant halftime lead of 51-29. The team capitalized on Florida A&M’s turnovers, converting eight mishaps into 14 points, while dominating the Rattlers with a significant 26-8 advantage in points scored in the paint before the break.
For Florida A&M, Sterling Young was the leading scorer with 15 points. Jordan Chatman contributed 13 points, including three shots from three-point range, while Milton Matthews added 10 points. However, the Rattlers struggled offensively, experiencing dry spells where they failed to make field goals for stretches of over three, four, and even seven minutes during the first half.
The Mustangs showcased a strong shooting performance, hitting 53% of their shots overall. They also converted on 10 of their 24 attempts from three-point territory, achieving a 42% success rate, and were effective from the free-throw line with a completion rate of 81%. The victory improved SMU’s record to 2-0, while Florida A&M fell to 0-2 for the season.
