Republican Tom McClintock has successfully secured his reelection to a U.S. House seat in California after defeating Democratic opponent Michael Barkley on Wednesday.
McClintock’s district, which extends southeast from the suburbs of Sacramento, encompasses the scenic Yosemite National Park.
Having first been elected to the House in 2008, McClintock currently serves as one of California’s 12 Republican representatives.
Throughout his tenure, he has often taken a stance against the Republican leadership and notably was the sole Republican co-sponsor of the Ending Qualified Immunity Act, which was introduced in 2020 following the tragic death of George Floyd due to police actions in Minneapolis.
The results announced him as the victor at 1:47 a.m. EST.
