Democratic Representative Sanford Bishop has successfully secured another term in the U.S. House, representing Georgia’s 2nd District. Bishop, who is 77 years old, holds the distinction of being Georgia’s longest-serving member of Congress, having first entered office in 1992. His district encompasses the rural southwestern areas of the state, including the city of Albany and parts of Columbus and Macon.

In the recent election, Bishop faced off against Wayne Johnson, a former official with the U.S. Education Department during President Donald Trump’s term. Throughout his political career, Bishop has established himself as a moderate voice and is the only Democratic representative from Georgia outside of the metropolitan Atlanta area.

With more than thirty years of experience in Congress, Bishop’s influence is felt particularly through his roles on the House Appropriations and Agriculture committees. The results of the election were announced promptly at 10:13 p.m. EST, confirming Bishop’s continued leadership and representation for his constituents in Georgia.
