CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Lynn Kidd made an impressive entry with the Miami Hurricanes, scoring 24 points and securing nine rebounds in a dominant 113-72 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson, marking the beginning of the season for both teams on Monday night.

Kidd, a recent transfer from Virginia Tech, is one of four graduate transfers added to a squad filled with senior leadership. He was joined by Jalen Blackmon from Stetson, who contributed 15 points, Brandon Johnson from East Carolina with seven points, and Yussif Basa-Ama from Yale. In addition, freshman Divine Ugochukwu marked his entry into college basketball with 15 points, while Jalil Bethea, a highly regarded McDonald’s All-American, added nine points to the tally.

Kidd’s performance was nothing short of remarkable, showcasing his offensive prowess by making 10 of his 11 attempts from the field and sinking all four free throws. Nijel Pack, stepping into his senior year after dealing with injuries last season, also had a standout game, hitting 9 of 11 shots including 2 out of 3 from beyond the arc. As a team, Miami displayed exceptional shooting, connecting on 66.7% of their attempts (46 of 69) and hitting 41.2% from three-point range (7 of 17).

For Fairleigh Dickinson, Terrence Brown led with 18 points, while teammates Dylan Jones and Jo’el Emanuel contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively. The team finished with a shooting percentage of 47.2%, making 25 of 53 attempts, and struggled with three-pointers, hitting 30.4% of their attempts (7 of 23).

As the season progresses, Miami will look to build on this strong opening performance while Fairleigh Dickinson aims to regroup and improve in their upcoming matches.
