SAN ANTONIO – The Boston Red Sox have decided to retain veteran outfielder Rob Refsnyder by exercising his contract option worth $2.1 million. This decision was confirmed on Monday, ensuring that the 33-year-old player remains a part of the team for the upcoming season.
Refsnyder recently concluded his most successful season in Major League Baseball, showcasing an impressive batting average of .283 along with a personal best of 11 home runs and 40 runs batted in. His performance over the past three years has made him an integral part of the Red Sox roster, delivering consistency as a reliable contributor.
Rather than opting for a $150,000 buyout, the Red Sox chose to keep Refsnyder on the team. Last season, he earned a base salary of $1.85 million and received an additional $25,000 for surpassing 300 plate appearances, marking a significant milestone in his career.
As he approaches his 10th season in the majors, Refsnyder looks forward to bringing his experience and skills to the field. He began his professional career with the New York Yankees in 2015 and has since played for various teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, and the Minnesota Twins.
