Empoli snaps home goal drought with 1-0 victory over Como in Serie A

Empoli secured its inaugural home victory of the Italian league season on Monday, thanks to a goal by Pietro Pellegri just two minutes into the second half, leading them to a 1-0 win over Como.

The Torino striker capitalized on a defensive lapse, maneuvering into the penalty area and finishing from a challenging angle. This goal marked Empoli’s first scoring at home this season.

Despite having only netted eight goals across 11 matches, Empoli currently occupies the 11th position in Serie A, aided by a robust defensive record that has seen them concede merely nine times.

Como remains in 16th place following the defeat.

In another encounter, Parma faced a 1-0 loss against Genoa at home, extending its winless streak to nine games.

The match took place on a foggy night, where Parma exhibited the better performance in the first half. Players Valentin Mihaila and Anas Haj Mohamed both came close to scoring.

However, it was Genoa that took charge after halftime, with Morten Thorsby having a goal ruled out just after the break. Andrea Pinamonti then hit the post shortly thereafter.

Pinamonti ultimately netted the decider in the 79th minute, converting the rebound from Jeff Ekhator’s low shot. This victory marked Genoa’s first since their win over Monza on August 24, allowing them to climb off the bottom of the standings into 17th place, while Parma stays at 15th.
