TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — In a commanding performance, Ta’Niya Latson led the way with 27 points while Makayla Timpson recorded an impressive 17 points alongside 22 rebounds, marking her 32nd career double-double. The No. 19 Florida State Seminoles set a new single-game record for points, dominating North Florida with a score of 119-49 in their season opener on Monday.

Florida State kicked off the match with a sensational 20-0 run, with Latson contributing eight points and Timpson collecting 10 rebounds during that stretch. By halftime, the Seminoles had established a solid lead of 56-20 and continued to shine by scoring 39 points in the third quarter.

Timpson’s performance tied her with Sue Galakantas for the second-most career double-doubles in Florida State history, now trailing only Natasha Howard with 41. She achieved her double-double status with 11 points and 21 rebounds midway through the third period, while the program record for rebounds in a single game stands at 24.

Building on last year’s momentum, the Seminoles returned 75% of their scoring and 82% of their rebounding capabilities, highlighted by the contributions of Latson, Timpson, and O’Mariah Gordon.

Along with her standout teammates, Gordon added 15 points to the scoreboard, while Sydney Bowles contributed 18 points and Avery Treadwell rounded out the effort with 14 points and eight rebounds. For North Florida, Sarah Taub was the team’s leading scorer with 12 points.

In terms of long-range shooting, Florida State successfully made 15 of their 38 attempts from beyond the arc, whereas North Florida struggled, managing only 20 field goals throughout the game.

This season opener marked the third consecutive time FSU has hosted UNF since the 2017-18 season, and they have historically performed well, boasting a 43-10 record when starting the season. Additionally, the Seminoles have now extended their winning streak to nine consecutive season openers.
