Tyler Marsh has been appointed as the new head coach of the Chicago Sky, as confirmed by a source close to the decision on Saturday night.
The source requested anonymity due to the absence of an official announcement regarding the hiring.
Marsh, who was previously an assistant coach for the Las Vegas Aces, takes over a team featuring standout players Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.
Additionally, the Sky holds a lottery pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, which could bolster their roster significantly.
ESPN was the first outlet to report on Marsh’s hiring.

Marsh succeeds Teresa Weatherspoon, who was let go after just one season at the helm.
Under Weatherspoon’s leadership, the team struggled, finishing with a record of 13-27 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
At only 36 years of age, Marsh becomes the Sky’s fourth head coach since they claimed their first WNBA championship in 2021.

He joined the Las Vegas Aces coaching staff in March 2022, playing a crucial role in guiding the team to win consecutive WNBA titles under head coach Becky Hammon during his tenure.
However, the Aces faced a setback this season as they were knocked out by the New York Liberty in the semifinals.
Before his time with the Aces, Marsh served as an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers, where he worked under both Nate Bjorkgren and Rick Carlisle.
He has also gained experience with the Toronto Raptors and has coached in the G League.

Marsh’s foundational playing career took place at both UAB and Birmingham-Southern, where he honed his skills before transitioning into coaching.
With his diverse coaching background and a championship pedigree, he steps into a pivotal role aiming to revitalize the Chicago Sky’s performance in the coming season.
