CINCINNATI — Right-handed pitcher Emilio Pagán has opted to exercise his $8 million contract option for the 2025 season on Saturday, allowing him to continue with the Cincinnati Reds instead of entering free agency.

During the previous season, Pagán recorded a 4-5 win-loss record along with a 4.50 ERA in 37 games, which included one start. Throughout 38 innings pitched, he achieved 44 strikeouts while issuing 11 walks. His season was interrupted by injury, as he experienced right triceps tightness from May 19 to June 8. After making a brief return for a one-inning appearance against the Chicago Cubs, he was sidelined again until August 11 due to a right lat strain.

Had Pagán chosen to decline the option, he would have received a buyout of $250,000. Now at 33 years old, he has amassed a career record of 26 wins and 23 losses, boasting a 3.78 ERA over eight seasons in Major League Baseball. His career journey has taken him through teams such as Seattle, Oakland, Tampa Bay, San Diego, Minnesota, and now the Reds.

In another development, the Cincinnati Reds announced that catcher Austin Wynns has rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville and has opted to become a free agent.
