MUNICH — Harry Kane showcased his striking prowess by scoring a pair of goals and assisting another as Bayern Munich secured a 3-0 triumph against Union Berlin on Saturday, continuing their impressive winning streak in the Bundesliga.
Currently, Bayern sits at the top of the Bundesliga standings, having triumphed in its last four matches against domestic competitors in both the league and cup without allowing a single goal. However, the team’s performance in European competitions tells a different story, as Bayern has faced two defeats in the Champions League, the latest being a significant 4-1 loss against Barcelona. They face Benfica at home on Wednesday, hoping to reverse their fortunes.
Kane opened the scoring for Bayern with a successful penalty after Michael Olise was brought down, then he assisted Kingsley Coman’s goal just before halftime, extending Bayern’s lead. In a demonstration of teamwork, Kane outpaced his teammate Jamal Musiala to finish off Bayern’s third goal, which came from Coman’s header that found both players in an unmarked position at the far post.
With these contributions, Kane has now netted a total of 17 goals in all competitions this season. Notably, his 11 goals in the Bundesliga surpass the totals of three teams in the league, including Union.
In other Bundesliga matches, Eintracht Frankfurt achieved a remarkable 7-2 victory over Bochum. This win boosted them to third place in the standings, trailing behind Bayern and Leipzig. Hugo Ekitike scored twice, while Can Uzun, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder, marked his presence by netting a goal mere moments after entering the match from the bench. Bochum currently languishes at the bottom of the table, with just one point from their first nine games and having conceded 29 goals.
Both teams that were promoted managed to secure victories as well, with Holstein Kiel celebrating its inaugural Bundesliga win by defeating Heidenheim 1-0, and St. Pauli overcoming Hoffenheim with a score of 2-0. Additionally, Wolfsburg salvaged a draw against Augsburg thanks to a late equalizer from Mohamed Amoura in the 82nd minute.
As the day progressed, Borussia Dortmund faced scrutiny as coach Nuri Sahin finds himself under pressure, with his team preparing to host Leipzig amidst a series of disappointing results.
