MILWAUKEE — On Saturday, Vice President Kamala Harris took aim at House Speaker Mike Johnson after he hinted that Republicans might consider reducing government funding for semiconductor manufacturing.
“I am committed to continuing our investment in American manufacturing,” Harris stated while addressing the press in Milwaukee.
Following her remarks, Johnson clarified his earlier statements, explaining that his intention was solely to suggest that Republicans would aim to “streamline” the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act.
This significant legislation has allocated substantial funding toward boosting computer chip production within the United States and has played a crucial role in supporting union jobs in key areas like Michigan.
Harris responded to Johnson’s retraction by pointing out that his revised statement reflects an agenda that lacks popularity among the public.
As part of her campaign efforts, the Vice President is scheduled to take her message to Atlanta and then onto Charlotte, North Carolina, for rallies on Saturday.
Meanwhile, former President Trump is also planning his presence in North Carolina with two rallies, along with an additional event in Virginia.
